Farewell WO1 Chen

Warrant Officer 1st Class (WO1) Andrew Chen has served 907 Black Knights Squadron as its Cadet Squadron Commander during its most unusual training year. Despite a 2019/2020 training year that got cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WO1 Chen remained resilient, positive, and truly put the cadets before himself; coming up with creative ideas to engage with cadets throughout this unprecedented time.

WO1 Chen joined 907 Squadron in 2015 and was always eager to learn about aviation and aerospace activities. He took part in many extra-curricular activities, most notably Ground School, Biathlon, and Marksmanship. His hard work at 907 paid off when he attended the Glider Pilot Scholarship Course in 2019 and obtained the top overall flight test, which led to him achieving the Air Force Association of Canada (AFAC) Medal. He also was a successful candidate for the Power Pilot Scholarship Course in 2020.

WO1 Chen has also led and mentored our senior cadets by reminding them that the cadets come first and that their success directly reflects the performance of the senior cadets, as well as the legacy of 907.

The cadets and staff are truly grateful to have such an outstanding individual command 907 and navigate it through this turbulent time.

WO1 Chen will have an opportunity to formally address the squadron once we return to parading normally. Until then, we wish him nothing but blue skies and tailwinds in his future.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: All Indoor In-Person Cadet Activities Suspended

Effective immediately, all indoor in-person cadet activities are suspended until November 23rd, 2020.

This is being done to align with the most recent restrictions that come into effect for the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions tonight.

The immediate impact this will have on us will be the training night taking place on Wednesday, Nov 18th, as well. as the museum trip.

There is no training on November 11th, due to Remembrance Day.

We will provide an update prior to indoor in-person activities scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 25th.

Virtual Ground School 2020

We are exploring options available to us for running a virtual Ground School Program for 2020 and possibly into early 2021. While we do not yet know the status of any flying scholarship courses being offered in the summer of 2021, we still want to run a small program to gear up for any exam that’s upcoming, or at least to keep interest levels up.

For our new recruits, ground school is a set of specific aviation lessons designed to prepare cadets who intend to write the Glider Pilot or Power Pilot Scholarship Entrance Exams. The content is typically more advanced and tailored for those individuals. However, you may still sign up for one or two lessons. Since it’s virtual, there are no physical limits, such as seats.

Squadron is FULL for 2020/2021

We have experienced an impressive amount of interest in new recruits to 907, and while we greatly appreciate the interest, due to the limited numbers we can have due to COVID-19, we need to stop accepting any new applications for this training year. Please do not call in inquiring about registration.

If you are still interested in the Air Cadet program, we strongly encourage you to check out 819 Squadron in North Delta, 278 Squadron in Surrey, or 767 Squadron in Surrey.
